52nd anniversary of historic 7th March speech of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman

KOLKATA: Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Kolkata organized a host of programs to commemorate the 52nd anniversary of historic 7th March speech of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The program included national flag raising in the morning which was followed by laying floral wreath at the bust of Bangabandhu at the ‘Mujib Chiranjeeb’ and offering special prayers at the Mission premises.

The Mission organized a discussion session in the afternoon which was preceded by reading out messages from Hon’ble President and Hon’ble Prime Minister of Bangladesh and laying floral wreath at the portrait of Bangabandhu at the Bangladesh Gallery . H.E. Saifuzzaman Chowdhury, M.P., Hon’ble Land Minister and H.E. Mr. Abu Mohammad Amin Uddin, Hon’ble Attorney General of Bangladesh graced the event as the Chief Guest and Special Guest respectively. Hon’ble Land Minister remarked on the achievement and tremendous progress of Bangladesh in various sector under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister of Bangladesh and linked it to the strength achieved through the 7th March Speech. Hon’ble Attorney General pointed that 7th March Speech of Bangabandhu prepared the Bengali nation to emancipate itself from the clutches of oppression and discrimination. Dr. Barendu Mandal, Professor of Jadavpur University and Shri Devadeep Purohit, an eminent journalist of India were the discussants where they have highlighted that the speech encapsulated the aspirations for economic emancipation, political emancipation and cultural emancipation and hailed the Hon’ble Prime Minister of Bangladesh for reinvigorating the spirit and ideals of 7th March Speech of Bangabandhu. H.E. Andalib Elias, Deputy High Commissioner of Bangladesh in Kolkata in his welcome remarks highlighted the inspiration and courage that Bangabandhu’s historic speech of 7th March infused among the people of all castes and creeds. He further highlighted the establishment of the Bangladesh Mission in Kolkata, the first Diplomatic Mission of Bangladesh abroad, on 18 April 1971 and referred to the fact that the 7th March Speech of Bangabandhu inspired this historic incident.
