To commemorate the 150th Birth Anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore, WBHIDCO Ltd. had taken the initiative to set up “Rabindra Tirtha” – a Cultural & Research Institute which was inaugurated by Smt. Mamata Banerjee, Hon’ble Chief Minister of West Bengal on August7, 2012. It is spread over an area of approx. 5 acres & located in the heart of New Town, Kolkata with facilities including an Auditorium, Art Galleries, Exhibition Halls, Mini Cinema Hall & Music Room. There are also Collages and Dormitories for providing accommodation to resident researchers.
A Digital archive has also been crated on the life and works of Rabindranath Tagore. Some selected songs, recitations of Tagore poems, pictorial biography of Tagore, Children’s section etc. make up the archive at present. All cultural functions at Rabindra Tirtha will take place in the auditorium. The Audio system of the auditorium is equipped with the most highly acclaimed audio products. The stage lighting system has been designed in such a way so that it can cover all types of lighting and shading for all events that can be staged in this auditorium.
